Lower Marley Farm, and the walk to the shop (and pub!)
In July 2016, we spent a relaxing week in East Sussex, staying in a tiny cottage on a small farm in Sedlescombe, just north of Hastings.
Our friendly hosts made us really welcome and told us about how they had retired to the country and learned to raise sheep, chickens, pigs and geese.
We spent most mornings visiting various local attractions (see links on East Sussex page) but one of the most pleasant experiences was the walk through the fields to the local village - such a change from my usual walk to the shops!
Quince Cottage is one of two holiday lets set in a sunny courtyard - we were welcomed with a delicious coffee and walnut cake and some fresh eggs waiting in the small (but perfectly formed!) kitchen.
The walk to the village, went through the farm yard, with its tractor and digger, past the pig styes and chicken run (the owners' friendly dogs Hugo and Chloe helped with collecting the eggs each day!) and out into the fields. The small field with the pond (which I could see from the kitchen window) was home to loads of Hungarian Green frogs (unseen, but did a lot of plopping), a heron, bunnies and lots of swallows diving for insects to feed their young.
The next field held 28 sheep (including two rams) and then the path led to two footbridges over the River Brede.
Past the playground was the village ... where I had to avoid the geese on the green to reach the well-stocked village shop!
And the Queen's Head made a lovely cup of coffee in the afternoons before the wander back to the cottage.
