Moliets, in the Landes region of Acquitaine
Moliets is a small village on the Landes coast of Aquitaine in south west France. The coast here is one immensely long sandy beach stretching from Biarritz in the south to Bordeaux in the north, backed by high dunes with pine forests behind them. The land here used to be all swamp and it is said that Napoleon ordered the dunes to be built and the vast pine forests planted to drain the land.
These photos were taken during several holidays in south-west France between 2009 and 2014
The first three rows of photos were taken on various holidays in Moliets between 2009 and 2014 - many images show the cycle tracks that run through the pine forest around Moliets itself and along the coast from Arcachon down to Hossegor.
This row shows images of St Jean de Luz - we usually managed to stop there at least once during each holiday, en route to Spain to do some shopping!!
This last set of photos are from a holiday in Ainhoa (in the foothills on the French side of the Pyrennes) in 2010. It was fascinating to read some of the inscriptions carved over the doors of village houses, acknowledging the money received from sons who had emigrated to the Americas.
