These photos were taken on my first visit to Brazil in 2005.  The ever changing views from the little train that laboriously winds up Corcovado to the viewing platform beneath the gigantic statue of Cristo Redentor were so beautiful that I actually cried!  Those first settlers must have been amazed at the panoramas from every peak ... it is no wonder that they were inspired to build churches on top of so many of the hills around Rio.
