In early 2004, when our daughter invited me to meet up with her for her final weeks in the USA.  So I flew out to Los Angeles where we hired a car to explore California before flying to New York for a week en route home.

As a fan of 'Thelma and Louise', she insisted we should splash out on a convertible to drive through Nevada and Arizona to the Grand Canyon (though we couldn't afford a Thunderbird!!)

We drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, (with a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon).  We were also booked to spend a few days at Yosemite National Park, but sadly it was closed at short notice due to heavy snowfall. so we had to alter our route and drove up highway 5 to spend a bit longer than originally planned in San Francisco, before returning down the spectacular Pacific Highway 1 to LA for our flight to New York.

Granny Sue's Photo Gallery

... first of all, some special places I have been lucky enough to visit

Brazil

Brazil - this series of galleries includes photos from three trips to Brazil, visiting family and taking the opportunity to see other parts of this enormous country on each visit.

These galleries include photos from Rio de Janeiro, the Amazon, Olinda, Florianopolis, Iguassu Falls, Campos Altos, Ouro Preto, Praia do Forte and the Pantanal

India and Nepal

India & Nepal - this fantastic holiday of a lifetime included visits to Delhi, Jaipur and Agra visiting the usual tourist sites, as well as a few days spent at Sariska Tiger Reserve, followed by an extension in Nepal.  I made this trip in December 2000, when digital cameras were still VERY new and memory cards held only a small number of (very small) images - so this collection is much smaller than I would have wished!

Western Australia via the Far East

In 2003, our daughter and I were able to make an exciting trip to Western Australia to attend the wedding of a good friend. I had just retired and she was between jobs, so we decided to travel part of the way overland and after a stopover in Bangkok we travelled by sleeper train through Malaysia - breaking the journey at a resort at Pangkor. We then went by road to Kuala Lumpur to catch a flight to Singapore for a short stay before flying on to Perth.

We had plenty of time to explore Perth and the surrounding area (using the excellent public transport), as we had arrived a week before the wedding in order for daughter to be fitted for her bridesmaid's dress.  After the wedding, we hired a car and toured SW Australia before I returned home via another short stop in Singapore and daughter remained in Australia and NZ for a couple of months visiting friends she had made during her gap year.

USA: California and New York

And here are some less exotic (but no less enjoyable) destinations ....

For many years, we drove down to south-west France in early autumn, renting a property on or near the Moliets golf course, and various family members came down to stay with us. This page also includes images taken in Ainhoa, in the french Pyrenees.

We regularly holiday in England too, and these images were taken in Polperro in 2011, when we rented a cottage right on the harbour (and paid the price by having people - and seagulls - peering in through our kitchen window every day!)

This next set of photos were taken in France in 2009 at Angouleme and Cognac

These photos are from a short visit to Madrid in 2010

To start with, this collection of photos taken in East Sussex in July 2016 includes images from Hastings, Rye, Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter house and gardens and Rudyard Kipling's home at Bateman's.

Our most recent holiday has been in July 2018, when we stayed in Brittany - check out this page for photos of Carantec, Guisseny and a short video taken of the inhabitants in St Pol de Leon enjoying France's win in the 2018 Football World Cup
